The CDC reported on connections with social factors such as racial stress, unemployment, living in poverty, not owning a home, cost-prohibitive effects of access to care, smoking, inactive lifestyle, and obesity and chronic illness and early death with Black Americans.
Chronic stressors and traumas such as racial discrimination and disparities appear to trigger an inflammatory response among African Americans at the cellular level raising their risk of chronic illness , according to the study published in the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology on April 18.
The Pew Research Center, in 2023, reported that Black Americans reported that less access to quality services is the top reason for why they have the worst health outcomes and when they do receive treatment the care is poor or insufficient.
A large majority of black clients report that they prefer to work with black providers but have difficulty finding one.
Due to lags in black generational wealth, access to start funds and student loan debt, black professionals often can not afford to provide services to lower income individuals because insurance reimbursements and public service positions salaries are not sufficient to meet their needs.
The Arizona Black Chamber of Commerce reported that because black owned businesses are scattered throughout Arizona, there is not a conglomerate of black businesses. This has left the 2% of Arizona businesses owned by black owners to operate in the isolating culture of "every man for themselves".
